Principal's Message

Greetings Huntington Park High School Community Members and Welcome to the 2018 - 2019 School Year! We will be celebrating 110 years of existence by ushering in new programs and facilities.

I hope you have had a restful and pleasant summer break filled with lasting memories. Most importantly, we wish you spent time getting some well-deserved rest and enjoying the company of your loved ones. This year, under the guise of our new mission, vision, core values, and student learner outcomes, we will enthusiastically continue with some tried and true programs and embark on new initiatives that will help better prepare our students to be college and career ready!

This summer our AVID team attended the conference along with other invited teachers. We look forward to growing the AVID strategies school-wide. Our music, band, and athletics programs are looking to improve on last year’s success. This year, our band will be featured at the halftime show between the Rams vs Chargers game on September 23. Our school will be going through the WASC accreditation this year and we want to invite all interested community members to be part of the great work and improvements taking place at HPHS. The commitment of our teachers has allowed us to continue offering AP classes and compete with other schools through Academic Decathlon. Our school newspaper, The Spartan Times, will continue its coverage of events and will make its presence known on social media. This year students will have the opportunity to complete CTE pathways in Culinary Arts and Digital Media Design! These are but a few of the great things that have been happening at HPHS.

We have been busy since last year preparing some new opportunities for our Spartans! All families in LAUSD will be able to apply to the Huntington Park High School S.T.E.A.M. Magnet, the first of its kind in the area. On-time applications begin Monday, October 1, 2018, and are due by Friday, November 9, 2018. Register Online at The new MESA program at HP will be an additional opportunity to motivate and prepare students to enroll in college for majors in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  New to HP this year is the Theatre/Drama program which will showcase the talents of our students. Drones and Robotics will make their debut as part of our after-school programs. Finally, a much anticipated $113 million dollar modernization project will bring new facilities to HPHS. Work is scheduled to begin at the end of this school year.

These are just some of the opportunities offered to our students which would not be possible if not for the strength, commitment, and support of our teachers, students, and staff that help make the Spartan Nation a Greater Nation!

IF…, then…#HPSpartanNation!
