About your teacher

Welcome to the virtual space for my classroom. I am proud to be an English teacher at HP since 2011, and I've been teaching in LAUSD since 2005. I graduated from USC (Fight On!), Cal State Dominguez, and Cal State Long Beach. I attended El Camino Real High school (LAUSD) and grew up in South Central Los Angeles. After graduating from college I worked in corporate and non-profit settings for ten years. I homeschooled my son for six years, and that experience led me to be a teacher today.  I love working at HP and look forward to teaching my students every day. I teach AP Literature, Theatre Arts, Literary Analysis of Minority literature, and Advanced ELD.  In 2019, I was blessed to be chosen for Teacher of the Year (2019-2020) and it was a happy moment to represent my colleagues.

Outside of school, I have a performing arts background in community theatre, and I still sing in church. I am the executive director of a non-profit organization for the preservation of Gospel music. I am the mother of an adult child who is a talented musician.

My desire is for young people to learn to be critical thinkers who leave high school equipped to succeed in life. Whether that journey takes them to college, the military, or into vocational training, I want them to feel confident about their abilities and I hope their discovery about themselves sustains their journey.
